Idols

She's 13. She has her idols.
They shake and shout to rock'n'roll.
 
She's 17. She buries these idols, tearing posters from walls.
 
She's 21. She makes new idols, for no one really knows them (they needn't be publicized).
 
She's 30. She has no time for idols. She expects herself to be neat and wise.
 
She's 40 and suddenly she turns into an idol herself. Her face is pale as she realizes she's nothing but a token from the shelf.
 
She's 80 and she still memorizes a long list of idols she used to build and burn.
