Доказано, что разные планеты
Обходят солнце – каждая в свой срок.
К примеру, Марсу буйному на это
Необходим лет в шестьдесят рывок.
С тех пор, как в путь отправил юный бог
Свою планету, минул год, но всё же
Мне показалось, дней его поток
Длинней, чем сорок вёсен, что я прожил.
Мои расчёты и верней и строже:
Путь Купидона занял сорок лет.
Тоска меня все эти годы гложет.
Всё тянутся они. Конца им – нет!
Но пусть любви планета путь пройдёт,
Мне дни убавив, меньше, чем за год!

SONNET 59
THEY, that in course of heavenly spheres are skilled,
To every planet point his sundry year:
in which her circles voyage is fulfilled,
as Mars in three score yeares doth run his sphere.
So since the winged God his planet clear,
began in me to move, one year is spent:
the which doth longer unto me appear,
then all those forty which my life outwent.
Then by that count, which lovers' books invent,
the sphere of Cupid forty yeares contains:
which I have wasted in long languishment,
that seemed the longer for my greater pains.
But let me love's fair Planet short her ways
this year ensuing, or else short my days.
