motherland?

Once familiar streets now feel estranged,
My homeland changed, a place deranged,
In shadows cast by foreign hands,
A stranger in my native lands.

Yet in a distant land, so far and wide,
I found a refuge, a place to abide,
Amongst new faces and foreign speech,
A sanctuary beyond my reach.

The invaders deemed as saviors bold,
Their presence heralded, stories told,
Of liberation and newfound grace,
In their embrace, a different place.

Forced to adapt, to shift my view,
Accepting truths that once I knew,
My heart divided, torn in twain,
Between two worlds, in joy and pain.

But in this foreign land, I see,
The kindness and hospitality,
A new beginning, a fresh start,
Where strangers became family, heart to heart.

And so I ponder, in quiet reflection,
On the nature of home, its true direction,
For sometimes saviors wear a mask,
In the guise of those we once would task.

In this newfound land, I've found a way,
To call it home, where I now stay,
Embracing change, letting go of fear,
For in adaptation, new roots appear.
